Plutons Rising: DID

See also: -[Plutons Rising - Noeticiity]- -[Yeah Olde Sandwhich Shope]- -[Basic M/S Word Skills]- Introduction: So what IS "Plutons Rising" ? It is an emersive V/R env that is (hopefully) condusive to learning. Strategy ======== Any process can be broken down into small tasks. To address the current problem, there will be two models that it will be useful to refer to. The first of these is the process involved at the local grill of making a sandwhich to go. To limit things, we'll say that they only carry veggie-burgers and ham-burgers. By doing this, we can have a set of tasks that when completed produce a product and the overall process is common enough to be understandable to almost anyone. Details: -[Yeah Olde Sandwhich Shope]- The second of these are some basic text and file manipulations to be used with MicroSoft Word. One reason for chosing this, is that the model (while not as universal as that of sandwhich prepartion), is well known enough to qualify as "computer training" and particularly encompassing a very usefull set of skills in the "modern" era. Emersive

EMERSIVE - dfn (working, etc) ======== According to ??author?? also: should have a ref or a link??? to Jane's hamlet book... hopefulll.. START AGAIN According to Joe Blonkowitz ge'schmoigen of THE be-fU:Ynin Blongigoinigs of Ayers City, New Mars: The plasticity of the (human) brain (which we now know never completely stops being plastic) [note 1] NOTE 1 Yes, Virginia, you *can* teach an old dog new tricks. MythBusters ??srch/link?? is esp able to adapt to the fast-paced, actions, conds, and evn of video games. [QQ] goes here The eword "emersive" is used here (and by V/R aestheticists both in general and broadly to encompass *any* env that has one or more of the following properties: believable (or at least reasonable) persistent and consistent feature-, object-, and action- -rich I/A and responsive wiht many well-defined objects whose behaviour(s) seem logical and even intuitive. In order to keep from getting boring, the emersive enviorns should abound with: variety surprises challenges To keep from getting (too) frustrating or too difficult, then env should provide: help, hints, demos suicide/exit-now/boss-keys, etc. guiding documents and/or characters and *always* with autosave ENABLED (ideally micro-second to micro-second; see "Forbidden Planet") V/R is noththing new ==================== When childern (this was written at the dentist's office where i took - well, you figure it out) When children play "jump rope" or "hop scotch", they are temporarily placing themselves in a physical 3d (but bounded by gravity to the 2d reality with any 3d moves limited to "hopping upward" (plus of course forward/bac) emersive environment. Note: Acceptance of the "rules of the game" is by social agreement. Moving on to something a bit more "V/R-ish", Mario Land, or any video game invovles this same acceptance of the rules. Note that the user/viewer/player is voluntarily engaged in the game. But, of course they can become adcictive (just ask any oldster about "tetris" even in monochrome, 2d). But since this isn't reality, the player can terminate their play at any time. In the present case, (hello!!! Plutons Rising; remember?) the env is designed to be enticing (but not maliciously so - don't you just hate spammers!!??!), and thus (hopefully) make learning more fun and easier to self-explolre and self-teach and... to self share with others. MAN (WOMAN, NETH) you have gotta try this!!!!! succes has a thousand fathers. [failure only one mother] - a mod on origina content is shown in p[editorial content] ^ author or handle - optional. b2topik SIDE BAR on REAL MIME isn't just hanging you r hand on an imaginary shelf!!! i *do* so muich miss marchello :,( Of course, we can build into the model (V/R env, plans, etc0 a traditional lecture method (ie, "method()" ie, read that as "script", "char", sub-env, room, etc) ie: lecture-teacher (??name??) and learner-student (??you? me? etc) And that may be just what is needed in "the play". Refer to "Student Saga" in the rest/rejuvinate area BUSINESS ETHICS 101 CLASS .. expd/expl = save point, rest area, calm centre, etc. But, of course, part of the goal (of PlR^'s) is to provide a lab-like, exploritoium-like (ref: Max Oppenheimer, univ chicago or a museum there-in/of) style env and HENCE features (etc++) that the student can play with as ??name?? said, when she was describing "trying out" a new env: Once it gets boring, i start trying to see what i can do with it. I pick up a car, walk over to the edge of the bridge and drop it off. If a police man comes up and gives me a ticket for spitting from the bridge then that's what i call COOL! - by no means an exact quote but you get the idea. NEW TOPIC The Principle of "Least Surprise" ================================== this is an old-school term for non-intuitive behaviour(s) of a system. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck..... ref to: shape-shifters; eg, ST - DS9 "odo" the hyper-evolving "captain" in the radio vers of the h2g2 If something looks like a table, then it SHOULD BE a table. That is, it is "table-like"; eg, you can put something on it. And (baring an earthquake) it stays there. The most common occurence of a table is in the trad of the "still life" in art. A vase w/flower.
