Computers: One Size Fits All!!!!
Posted to the EduTopia site:
The Digital Divide: How good is good enough?
It always devolves to this: In order to get
computers, it falls to the formula: How can
we get the most computers for the money? And
when they arrive, they all run the standard
S/W set (eg, M/S Word, Safari, etc), but none
of them is able to run any of the high-end
applications that are state of the art. And
it ends up we (read that as "nobody here but
us chickents") having to bring in our our own
personal computers, set them up and show the
software that represents what *can* be done
with computers. Those nice looking laptops
are beautiful to look at, but without a
decent graphics chip set they can't run the
rendering, modeling, etc S/W that is at the
core of the new techno generation of on-line
life that we are supposed to be teaching.
But still hopeful - blind fool that i am,
Franklin Twine (Second Life).
