STEP 1: Register with BOTH the SBEC and TEA (see below).
Make sure to use the SAME name, etc.

Part of this is to have "sample lesson plans",
as well as other documents that are "ready to use".
SHowing that you can teach RIGHT NOW.
Again as one of the instructors at TexasTeachers.or sed
that if she has a detailed lesson plan and "something"
comes up, then she knows that someone else can take over
for her in a pinch. And of course, it *does* show how
well organised you are.

Texas Teachers is a great program (there are other ones as
well). The main thing that they offer (almost un-believably
so - you know those DEDICATED teachers! ;) are:
1) For $400 (10%) down you are "in the system".
The payback is almost never heard of: If you
get a job, then they arrange a REASONABLE pay-back
out of your monthly paycheck - only IF you are
hired; otherwise payback is pending....
2) The support team in fantastic and you'll be
with HUNDREDS (not just a "classroom full"
- which is what i expected) of teacher
candidates, teachers (seeking cert in a
diff area), and the staff. I took the class
in Fall of 2007 at the Civic Centre in
Grand Prarie (a bit of a drive) but: FANTASTIC
3) They also provide an on-going database of not
only your records (as you get cert's, new
qualifications, etc), but training materials,
networking contacts, etc. And they are *ever*
ready to help.
4) Also they have seminars for ON-GOING training,
etc.
Note: They aren't an "official/professional" membership
(Like "tacta" - texas classroom teachers assoc),
but they are FULLY recognised by the state of TX
Abs fab and fine folks there; call today. The main
limitation is that the cert program (live to attend
and get credit for) are only in DFW, San Antonio and
Houston - some slightly out-side those area.s
